Brooklyn businesswomen showcased on “Victoria’s Stars”

The latest episode of Victoria Schneps’ captivating TV show, “Victoria’s Stars,” will give viewers a glimpse into the lives and careers of Dolly Williams and Renee McClure — two powerful, prosperous and wise women.

Although the three women come from different backgrounds, and work in different sectors of the corporate world, they all relate to each other while sharing stories of their struggles and successes.

McClure is manager of community and customer management at National Grid, while Williams is the president of her own company, A. Williams Construction.

Trinidad native Williams came to America and started her business in 1978, beginning her journey with just $5,000. She and her husband were living in the projects of East New York when they decided that their dream of being entrepreneurs trumped their desires to be homeowners, and used the cash to buy a single truck.

Williams told Schneps, the co-publisher of this paper, that she went forward in her endeavors by constantly asking herself the question, “How can I make a difference in someone else’s life?

“I was in pursuit of my dream; it didn’t matter that I was a woman, or a minority,” said Williams, as McClure noted, “The strength of a company is in its diversity.”

Several decades later, Williams speaks proudly about her newly renovated office, noting, “It’s a bit feminine for a construction office, but that’s okay because a woman owns it.”

McClure also reached her success by persevering and following her passion, adding, “There’s more than one way to reach your goal. When you have that vision in your head, no one can derail you. The one ingredient to success is hard work.”

Schneps honored McClure as a Top Woman in Business in 2012, and Williams in 2013.

The show, produced by Gregori Romenski, will air Friday, August 9, on BCAT, which can be found on Time Warner channel 79, Cablevision channel 68, RCN channel 83 and Verizon channel 43.
