Campers at SCO’s Family Dynamics Summer Enrichment Program showcased their talent in “My Neighborhood,” camp celebration on Friday, August 2.
“This program gives kids a creative voice through the art, within the context of a challenged community,” explained Family Dynamics Director Rick Gallwey.
This was a four week summer camp open to all children from grades K-12. The celebration hosted at I.S. 262, 301 Vermont Street was an all day event for the children to share not only their creativity but their feelings about their home, East New York. Some recited poetry while others got up on stage to share interpretative dances. The event ended off with a documentary film that the campers made themselves.
“It provides them with a safe place where they are part of group all learning about self-expression, leadership and community,” said Gallwey.
SCO Family of Services helps over 60,000 throughout New York City and Long Island build a strong foundation for the future. Family Dynamics, one of SCO’s community-based programs, is located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Brownsville and East New York, Brooklyn, and provides family counseling, after-school programs, literacy and workforce preparedness.
