Garbage be gone, along local shopping strips

On August 1, City Councilmember Vincent Gentile gathered with community leaders in the charming confines of Boulevard Books, located at Bay Ridge Parkway and 13th Avenue, to announce increased garbage pickups four days a week along major commercial strips in Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge.

“This has been a summer of big wins for our community,” Gentile said. “I’m pleased to announce that second basket garbage pick-ups will return to our district, four days a week, along some of our busiest commercial thoroughfares across Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

“We are lucky enough to have several thriving business corridors in our area and they all require attention,” he continued. “Now from Third Avenue to 13th Avenue and everything in between, especially on the weekends, these baskets will be picked up much more frequently.”

Among those on hand were City Councilmember Domenic Recchia, Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President Carlo Scissura, and Community Board 10 District Manager Josephine Beckmann.
