Birdies and bogeys and bunkers at the first annual Brooklyn Open

It’s tee time!

October 21 will mark a major day for local golfers. Marine Park Golf Course, the Robert Trent Jones-designed 18-hole championship course, will be hosting the first annual Brooklyn Open. The event will invite both professionals and elite amateur golfers to try their luck in the one-day medal tournament. The purse is expected to exceed $5,000.

The scenic course is best known for its length. It ranks the longest in yardage in New York City. Marine Park Golf Course operator Mike Giordano thinks it will add fascination and a unique spin on the tournament. “We firmly believe Marine Park Golf Course will be a daunting challenge when it’s stretched more than 7,000 yards,” he noted.

Entry for the event divides into two tiers: For professional golfers, the fee is $225. For amateur golfers (with a handicap of 10 or less), it’s $125. This includes a spot in the tournament and lunch. The deadline is October 14. Registration will close when the tournament reaches 90 participants.

“We are excited to host the inaugural Brooklyn Open for top metropolitan area professionals and amateurs ” said Giordano. “This gives us an opportunity to showcase improvements made at Marine Park and at the same time deliver a first-class golf tournament experience in Brooklyn.
