Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to close temporarily on Sept. 29 for Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Run

The Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn-Battery) Tunnel will be closed several hours on Sunday, Sept., 29 for the annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

One tube will be closed 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 28 through 3 p.m. on Sunday.  The remaining tube will carry one lane of traffic in each direction until 8 a.m., Sunday when both tubes will close for the event.

Some 20,000 people are expected to participate in the charity run/walk, which begins on the streets in Red Hook, goes through the tunnel and ends across from the World Trade Center site. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Firefighter Stephen Siller’s footsteps and honors those who died on 9/11.
