Coming off their first win of the season over Brooklyn Tech, the Tigers were ready host the Spartans of John Adams for their home opener. Fort Hamilton got on the board early in the first quarter when Michael Brooks ran the ball down to the one yard line and Isaiah Washington finished the series with a touchdown run on the ensuing play.
Working the ball downfield on the next possession in the second quarter, Fort Hamilton quarterback Sharif Legree found Mohammad Masoud on a 15-yard pass to get the Tigers to the 11-yard line. Legree then followed with a five-yard sprint into the end zone to put the Tigers up 12-0.Moving his team towards the John Adams end, Legree let loose with a 40-yard pass that Jordan Blake gathered in to put Fort Hamilton on the 33-yard line. The Tigers finalized their passing attack with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Devon Watts and a two-point conversion run by Legree to give Fort Hamilton a 20-0 lead at the half. After a 40-yard punt return to the Fort Hamilton 12-yard line, the Spartans moved the ball down to two-yard line where the Tiger defense stopped the only serious scoring threat by John Adams at the goal line. After a scoreless third quarter, Tiger Head Coach Dan Perez rested his first string and decided to replace Legree at quarterback with Adrian Maldonado in the fourth quarter. The move paid instant dividends as the senior quarterback, returning from a leg injury, scored Fort Hamiltons fourth touchdown of the game as well as a two-point conversion to complete the 28-0 shutout.Im proud of our defense; we havent pitched a shutout in a long time, quipped Head Coach Dan Perez. Weve got some tough games coming up on the horizon and we still must get better. One of those tough games will be next week with Curtis as the Tigers will host their traditional Staten Island rival.Leave a Reply
