Oh Orly: Promotion commotion

Oh Orly,

At my work, there is a big promotion spot opening up but the competition is fierce. I really want it and I am doing everything I can possible to ensure that I get the promotion, but what if I do not get it?

I do not think I can remain in my current position any longer, as I have outgrown it and am ready to move on.

Dear Bob,

The best thing is to do your best to get the promotion. Make sure your superiors know you are doing your best work; make sure everybody knows it.

Have a plan B. Don’t think about not getting the promotion; just be ready to look for something else if the promotion does not occur.

How many people are applying for the same promotion? Since I don’t know that answer, I will just assume that you are getting that promotion.

There’s something called a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you don’t think you’re going to get that promotion, guess what… you won’t!

You need to keep positive, do your best work and make sure everyone knows about it. When the promotion is given to you, make sure you contact me. To your ongoing success!
