Annabelle Broom might be a fashion-loving, witch-loving girls best friend.
That is because the titular character in Eleanor and Ray Harders childrens musical, Annabelle Broom: The Unhappy Witch, wears pink instead of black, prefers sweet ice cream over sour milk, and enjoys helping rather than scaringmuch to the horror and outrage of her fellow witches.Annabelles journey out of unhappiness, however, makes for wonderful songs and a charming story, both of which will be featured on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. the Brooklyn Public Librarys Central/Grand Army Plaza branch, and on Sunday, October 20 at 3 and 6 p.m. at the Master Theater in Brighton Beach.Children can relate to it and can see that everything doesnt always have to be the samethat theres always going to be someone who marches to a different drummer; that you can still be a witch and be nice, explained T. C. Weiss, production manager at Plaza Theatrical Productions, which is bringing the musical to families around the city this season. The musical will also appeal to young boys, as well as young girls, said Weiss, because one of the main supporting characters is a boy named Peter, who, along with his sister Judy, befriends Annabelle after she decides to help them instead of scare them. The threes friendship teach themand the audienceabout the power of doing good deeds. There is also power in fun songs to sing along and dance to, such as Pink Is My Color, Well Boil Her in Oil, Think One Happy Thought and Witch Chant. The interactivity between characters and audience doesnt stop there, though, as childrenand adultsare encouraged to attend dressed in costumes!Tickets to the 3 and 6 p.m. shows at Brighton Beachs Master Theater, 1029 Brighton Beach Avenue, of Annabelle Broom: The Unhappy Witch can be purchased for $25/$35/$45 at www.MasterTheater.com or by phone at 718-732-3838.Leave a Reply
