Next week will be our most important game of the season when we play Fort Hamilton, said Lincoln Head Coach Shawn OConnor in order to keep his undefeated team focused last week after the Railsplitters win over Erasmus to take first place.
Hosting a 7-0 Lincoln team with playoff implications late in the season, the Tigers started out aggressive and mounted their best drive of the season to open the game against one of the leagues best defenses.Despite sustained drives to get inside of the Lincoln 10-yard line, the Railsplitters held the Tigers scoreless twice deep in the red zone. Lincoln wasted no time to get on the scoreboard as Antoine Holloman outran all the Tigers defenders for a 57-yard touchdown. Lincolns quarterback Javon Moore added to the score on a 40-yard scramble up the middle to give the Railsplitters the lead at 14-0.In the last minute of the second quarter, Isaiah Washington intercepted a tipped pass to set the Tigers up on the Lincoln five-yard line. Lincolns defense held the Tigers scoreless at the five-yard line until quarterback Sharif Legree finally found Jordan Blake in the end zone on fourth down to cut the Railsplitters lead to 14-6 at the half. The Tigers started the third quarter, holding the Railsplitters from another score at the 20-yard line, only to see the Lincolns Leroy Hancle score on a subsequent 40-yard run to increase Lincolns lead to 20-6.Lincoln struck again in the fourth quarter as Javon Moore found Malik Andrews on a 10-yard pass to increase the Railsplitters lead to 27-6. Even though the Tigers were definitely down but not out, they mounted one last drive. Moving down to the 10-yard line again, Sharif Legree connected with Jordan Blake once more for the final score as the Tigers finished the game on the short end, 27-12.We killed ourselves with a lot of turnovers, but thats just their defense, said Fort Hamilton Head Coach Dan Perez. We didnt give up and showed that we would fight to the end. We might just meet these guys again in the playoffs.Next week, the fourth place 5-3 Tigers travel to Staten Island to take on the third place 6-2 Tottenville Pirates for the last regular game of the season before the playoffs. For first place 8-0 Lincoln, the Railsplitters will travel to play Boys High in Brownsville for an attempt to finish the regular season undefeated.Leave a Reply
