Celebrating 10 years of serving Brooklyn seniors

Senior citizens advocates and supporters gathered together earlier this fall to celebrate 10 successful years for the Senior Umbrella Network of Brooklyn (SUN-B), toasting a decade of service to the borough’s elderly and looking forward to future endeavors.

The party was held at Sunrise Senior Living on Strickland Avenue in Mill Basin, where a constant stream of SUN-B members stopped by to mark the auspicious occasion and congratulate SUN-B Chair and President Vicki Ellner.

“We really appreciate the support over the past 10 years,” said Ellner, adding, “It’s hard to believe. The organization wouldn’t exist without a very supportive membership.”

Looking ahead, the group is finalizing plans for a campaign, Stand Up for Fall Prevention, aimed at helping seniors live their lives more safely. The program will be piloted in a couple of communities prior to being rolled out boroughwide.
