Lincoln HS celebrates 20th anniversary of first PSAL title

Lincoln High School’s homecoming game against Erasmus Hall established the Railsplitters as the top seeded team in the PSAL this past October and featured a half time salute to the 1993 championship team which won the school’s first ever New York City title.

In 1993, the 11-0 Lincoln Railsplitters met the Canarsie Chiefs with an identical 11-0 record for the PSAL title at Columbia University’s home field in a memorable defensive battle.

“I’ll never forget that game,” said the legendary Canarsie coach Mike Camardese, now a football coach at Poly Prep. “It rained all day and there was so much mud. Lincoln finally scored on us in the third quarter on a 35-yard pass play. They maintained a 7-0 lead and held us at the one yard line in the fourth quarter to go on to take the title.”

Just like their 1993 counterparts, this season’s 2013 Railsplitters look forward to their title shot riding a 12-0 record to play Tottenville for the 2013 PSAL championship scheduled for December 10 at Yankee Stadium.
