The holidays are here! The Christmas spirit shone bright, as a holiday tree was lit in Gravesend at Lady Moody Square, with the smiles on the childrens faces attesting to the joyous atmosphere, despite inclement weather.
The girls were very happy. They had fun, said Jasmine Nikocevic, whose daughters Enisa and Medina attended the event. As he does every year, State Senator Marty Golden hosted the tree lighting, where revelers enjoyed cups of hot chocolate as they listened to traditional carols. It was a snow storm, cold and wet. Horrible weather. But still several hundred people showed up, noted Golden. Kids sang carols and their parents were there and it was a really nice evening and event. Donations for Toys for Tots were also collected, as well as cards and items to be mailed to the troops stationed overseas during the holidays.Merriment in Gravesend as Yule tree is lit
