Diana Reyna appointed as deputy borough president

Diana Reyna, long-time councilmember representing her native Williamsburg, Bushwick and Ridgewood, has been appointed deputy borough president by newly installed Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Explaining his choice, Adams stated, Diana Reyna has spent her entire career focused in the issues that matter the most to everyday New Yorkers [such as] affordable housing [where] she helped build and maintain thousands of units for low and middle-income families.

“She also fought tirelessly for better public schools and safer streets. And as Small Business chair in the City Council, she helped to promote and protect the backbone of Brooklyn’s economy,” said Adams. “For these reasons and more, I’m proud to have Diana Reyna on our team as we enter Borough Hall.

Reyna, a mother of two who was term-limited from running for re-election this past year in the 34th Council District, responded to her appointment with excitement.

“I am excited and honored to take on this historic opportunity to grow and improve my beloved borough,” said Reyna, stressing that Adams has “always stood up for those who most need government to work for them, and his election represents an important moment in Brooklyn where those values are needed – and clearly shared – now more than ever. I look forward to helping Team Adams achieve its goal of One Brooklyn, a borough that leaves no one behind and works together toward common goals, as part of the new administration at Borough Hall.

Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and fellow Brooklyn native Carlo Scissura was also pleased with Reyna’s appointment, congratulating her as “always [being] a champion for Brooklyn during her time in the City Council.

“I worked closely with Diana during her time in the City Council as chair of the Small Business Committee. She was always a powerful and strong advocate for small businesses in the borough,” said Scissura. “I look forward to working with her and Borough President Eric Adams as we continue to make Brooklyn the best place in the world to live, play and work.
