Unsung Bay Ridge: Power of attorney

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Our unsung heroes

This week I would like to publicly recognize the work of a man who has dedicated a lifetime of service to the people of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

Andrew Sichenze is a prominent attorney who has volunteered his time and expertise to the Bay Ridge Community Council and the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District for many years. He has spent countless hours defending our position on re-districting and changes in business law.

Andrew is a veteran of the Korean War, and is active in the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade Committee as well as the Bay Ridge American Legion Post. He is a leading member of the board of St. Ephrem’s Church, leading many fundraising efforts to benefit repairs to the church, as well as tuition reduction for schoolchildren.

Andrew can be found at his 77th Street and Fifth Avenue office, keeping an open door policy for any person in need of advice or assistance. He is one of my favorite people, as it is people like him who make Bay Ridge a wonderful community in which to live.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Get ready for the historic celebration of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Parade’s 20th anniversary. It will be held on Sunday, March 23. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., at Marine and Fourth Avenues, by St. Patrick’s Church, with the parade ending at 69th Street and Third Avenue. New York City Police Chief of Transit Joe Fox, who led Patrol Borough Brooklyn South for 12 years, is this year’s grand marshal.

My American Legion post, Amity Post, has changed meeting location from Adelphi School to St. Anselm, at 84th Street and Fourth Avenue. Commander Connie Ranocchia has announced the next meeting on Monday, March 3, at 7 p.m. New veterans are welcome. The post is actively involved in projects that support our wounded warriors.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Hypertension

Beet juice is a popular folk remedy to lower high blood pressure. Simply purchase at supermarkets or health food stores (which can be expensive) or juice half a beet with carrots, celery or other vegetables, daily, as a delicious drink.

Please consult your doctor if you are ill or on any medication.
