Former Fort Hamilton HS teacher sues NYPD

Almost three years after being arrested and charged with “making terroristic threats”—a charge that was later dropped—Sabrina Milo, 36, is suing the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and Officer Greg Evert for violating her civil rights by arresting her.

Claiming that Evert called her a “crybaby” and a “terrorist,” Milo is seeking $6 million in damages that include emotional distress, being forced to give up her teaching license and subsequent loss of employment.

Milo was a popular art teacher at Fort Hamilton High School and was arrested during an afternoon class on April 1, 2011, three days after she threatened to bring to work a machine gun under a trench coat, stating that she wanted to “settle some scores” and it would be “Columbine all over again,” a reference to the 1999 school shooting near Denver, Colorado.

The comment was made in a teacher’s lounge and one of the teachers reported it to the principal, who contacted police. Milo maintained that she was just venting and was speaking in jest during a stressful moment.
