St. Francis to honor journalist Tom Brokaw and alum Kenneth Daly

And the award goes to…

On Tuesday, April 1, St. Francis College will honor legendary journalist and anchorman Tom Brokaw and the president of National Grid, Kenneth Daly at its 53rd Annual Charter Award Dinner at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Brokaw is well known for his 22-year tenure as anchor in “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” as well as for his work on “The Today Show” and “Meet the Press.” He is the recipient of seven Emmy Awards as well as a Peabody Award.

Daly graduated from St. Francis in 1988 with a degree in English. He also taught at his alma mater as an adjunct professor for 20 years. Daly currently serves on the college’s Board of Trustees. Daly earned an MBA in Finance from St. John’s University and an MS in Human Resource Management from New York University. He achieved the distinguished Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2002. Daly also currently serves on the college’s Board of Trustees.

St. Francis started the tradition of the Charter Award Dinner in 1962. It was designed to raise funds for scholarship programs as well as other educational purposes for the school. Last year’s dinner raised over $650,000 for scholarships.

Vice President for Development Thomas Flood expressed the significance of honoring the two accomplished men. To have these two honorees come out to support our students shows the value they place on helping others, he said. It’s a value that lies at the heart of the Franciscan education we provide.

Tickets for the dinner start at $400 and range depending on table seating and sponsorship. A silent auction will also be held, which will include tickets to Brooklyn Nets games, various trips, Michael Kors bags and more. All proceeds from the action will go directly to fund scholarships.

Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit www.501auctions.com/CAD2014/tickets.php.
