Local green spaces win awards

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) was one of five educational institutions to win the 2014 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, which recognizes those that positively impact individuals, families and communities.

Calling the award a tremendous honor, BBG President Scot Medbury praised the popular Children’s Garden and BBG’s century-long “mission to foster and maintain strong ties to the community and increase environmental awareness and plant knowledge with visitors of all ages.”

Bushwick Inlet Park was selected as a 2014 COTE Top 10 Award for being among “the very best in innovative, sustainable design from around the world” that successfully merges architecture, natural systems and technology.

The park and its architects, Kiss + Cathcart, were one of two New York projects to win. The long-awaited transformation of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg waterfront created a vibrant, accessible. open green space that utilizes a green roof, heat pump wells, rainwater harvest and storage containers, drip irrigation and solar energy.
