Unsung Bay Ridge: Preservationist par excellence

NEIGHBORS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Our unsung heroes

My unsung hero of the week is Victoria HofmoVincent GentileÂ’sPreservation Committee.

She is a leader of the Bay Ridge Arts and Cultural Alliance. She is also the founder of the annual Viking Fest, to be held this year on May 17 at the Owls Head Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in advance of the annual Norwegian Day Parade, held on Sunday, May 18. She works non-stop for her community, and we are fortunate to have her in our neighborhood.

UNSUNG FOLK REMEDIES: Colds

At the first sign of a cold, lie on your side and place a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear. Let it sit for a few minutes before draining it out. Do the same in the other ear. You can use the peroxide as a gargle as well for sore throats. If hydrogen peroxide is not available, three cloves of garlic crushed in a bowl of hot chicken soup should also bring relief.

Please consult your doctor if you have any health concerns, or on any medication.
