Things to do for Father’s Day in Brooklyn

It’s often a struggle to figure out the best way to celebrate Father’s Day weekend. In many ways, finding a proper forum to bond with your loved one is more significant than finding the perfect gift.

However, sons and daughters are in luck as this year as Brooklyn has plenty of upcoming events for families.

  • Brooklyn Cyclones Opening Day: On Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m., MCU Park will welcome the start of minor league baseball in Coney Island for the 14th opening day. And it’s a good one as the Cyclones will face top rival, the Staten Island Yankees. With tickets starting at $10, a scheduled postgame fireworks show and magnetic schedule giveaway, it’s the perfect place to sit back and relax with dad. And, after the game, there’s always the amusement area to cap a perfect evening. Brooklyn Botanical Gardens: On a beautiful day, enjoy the beauty of nature. The acres (52 to be exact) of lander which feature flowers, trees and dedicated gardens make it a perfect destination for fathers to bond with the younger children. From the hundreds of cherry trees to the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, a day at Brooklyn Botanical offers a wide variety of fun. In addition, on Sunday, June 15, families can enjoy the Garden’s weekly Seasonal Highlights Guided Tour, which begins at 1 p.m.
  • Visiting local pubs to watch the World Cup: Four years have gone by pretty fast and the FIFA World Cup is already upon us. Who will come out victorious is anyone’s guess, but fathers and their children who can’t make the trip to Brazil can enjoy watching the slew of games scheduled for the weekend at a variety of local pubs.
    Lonestar Bar & Grill, 8703 Fifth Avenue, is a hot spot for soccer and as well as a good place to grab a bite. Starting June 12, The Knitting Factory, 361 Metropolitan Avenue, will also begin its coverage. Drinks specials will be available as well as two large projection screens and four flat screen televisions showing the matches. Hunter’s, 213 Smith Street will feature World Cup Cocktails and Black Horse Pub, 568 Fifth Avenue, will also be hosting viewing parties through the weekend.
  • Family Bowling at Brooklyn Bowl: Battle your dad in a friendly yet competitive day of bowling. Regardless of age, this timeless activity is a nice activity for the entire family. Brooklyn Bowl, 61 Wythe Avenue, is a perfect destination. Starting at noon on June 14-15, the venue is hosting Family Bowl & World Cup. Families can watch the matches in between aiming for a strike. Food is also available, making this event the full package.
  • Boxing match at Barclays: It is fight night at the Barclays Center on Saturday, June 14. For the main event, Ruslan Provodnikov will make the first defense of his World Boxing Organization junior welterweight title against undefeated world-rated contender Chris Algieri. Tickets for the match start at the $30 range.
  • Brooklyn Museum Civil Rights Exhibit: For all the history buff fathers out there, on Sunday, June 15, the Brooklyn Museum, , 200 Eastern Parkway, is offering a free tour of the exhibition Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties. The exhibit includes art from a decade defined by social protest and American race relations, making it a great way to share stories.
