A Look Back: HeartShare Human Services

HeartShare Human Services of New York, serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as children and families in need of foster care and adoption services, celebrates its centennial anniversary on July 12.

One hundred years earlier, on July 12, 1914, the organization incorporated as the Catholic Guardian Society of Brooklyn and Queens, and started assisting over 5,000 orphaned and destitute children, including the boys pictured above, upon their release from childcare institutions and orphanages at a time when neither society nor the law provided them any protections.
