Beloved ogre makes Ridge debut

On Friday, August 29, the Narrows Community Theater’s production of “Shrek the Musical” will debut at the Fort Hamilton Army Base Theater.

The adaptation of Dreamwork’s “Shrek,” based on the book by William Steig, has been nearly two months in the making. The production features Bay Ridge actors from eight to 21 years old. The musical, directed by Broadway star Jason Gotay, will be the group’s fourth annual summer youth show.

“For his first time directing, Jason is doing an excellent job. He really spares no detail in any aspect of the show when it comes to the acting and every time we review scenes with him, it just gets better,” said Jose Mendez, who will play the role of Donkey.

“Amazing. There are no words to describe how amazing this show is!” said Emily Ryan, who is in the ensemble.

The show will be presented on Friday, August 29: Saturday, August 30; Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 at 8 p.m. It will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sundays August 31 and September 7.

Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.

The theater is located at 101st Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway. A photo ID is required to enter the fort. Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students under 21, and $10 for children 12 and under.

The choreographer is Lane Halperin. The music director is Paolo Perez.
