Police Beat: 62 and 68 blotters

68th Precinct

Between Sunday, August 17 and Friday, August 22, the 68th Precinct received reports of one robbery, one attempted robbery, one burglary and one grand larceny. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

FULL OF GAS

An 87-year-old woman was at home when two white Hispanic males allegedly rang her doorbell on Wednesday, August 20 around 12:30 p.m. posing as employees of National Grid. One of the males stated that he needed to check the water. The victim then let him inside. After both males left the premises, the woman checked her make-up case and found $7,000 was missing.

A DIAMOND IS FOREVER

Posing as a prospective customer, a man entered a local jewelry store near Seventh Avenue and 86th Street at around 11 a.m. and asked to see a diamond engagement ring. Once the employee gave the unknown suspect the ring to look at, he ran out of the store with it. The ring is valued at $6,000.

ROBBERY

A 20-year-old white male was walking on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 73rd Street on Friday, August 22, at around 10:10 p.m., when a 23-year-old black Hispanic allegedly wielded a box cutter and told the victim, “Give me everything in your pockets.”

The perp allegedly put his hands around the victim’s throat, and then removed $160 from his pocket. Upon arrival of the 68th Precinct crime team, a canvass was conducted, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

NOT A WALK IN THE PARK

A 20-year-old female and a 19-year-old female were walking in Shore Road Park at 99th Street on Sunday, August 17 at around 10:40 p.m., when two unknown males approached the victims. One of the unknown suspects stated, “Give me your cell phone and there will be no problem.” Both suspects then grabbed the victims’ bags, making off with an iPhone, Nexus cell phone, debit cards and a wallet.

62nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 21, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one grand larceny, one felony assault, one robbery and two burglaries. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

ROUGH ROB

A 20-year-old woman was walking on Highlawn Avenue on Wednesday, August 20 around 6:45 p.m. when she felt a tugging on her purse. The woman was walking while reading something on her phone when a male perp in his 30s allegedly grabbed at her purse while yelling, “Give me your purse.”

The victim struggled, but the perp eventually forcibly removed $20 as well as a debit/credit card from the victim before snatching the bag and pushing the woman to the ground.

He fled on foot in an unknown direction.

ONLINE TRICKERY

A Bensonhurst resident living on Bath Avenue told cops that he had been looking to purchase a vehicle online. The resident, a 43-year-old white man, found one online at a retailer called Anderson Auto Parts Corp DVA Distinct Auto. According to cops, the man wired $71,000 to an account given to him by the company.

On Tuesday, August 19, the resident went to pick up the truck in South Carolina and, when he got to the location, he told cops that there was no auto dealership to be found. He went to the bank and was allegedly told that the accounts given by the company were fake, and that this was a scam.

SWEETHEART STAB

On Wednesday, August 20 around 8 a.m., a man living near 14th Avenue and 65th Street got into a verbal dispute with his girlfriend when she allegedly pulled out a knife. The girlfriend, 46, then allegedly stabbed the victim, 45, causing a small laceration.

The victim was removed to Coney Island Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

THROUGH THE WINDOW

On Tuesday, August 19, a 48-year-old man living near 84th Street and 23rd Avenue told cops that an unknown person had entered through the side window of his residence by removing the air conditioning unit. There was no damage to the window upon entering, but the unknown suspect (or suspects) made off with various electronics and designer bags.

The same day, a 41-year old man living near Lake Street and McDonald Avenue reported to cops that an unknown perp had entered through the back window of his house, which was left unlocked, and removed equipment and construction tools from an on-hand construction crew as well as personal items of the victim’s. Stolen property included a Dewalt 14” Red Blade and a Makita drill, among others.
