Culture Briefs: Eats, Beats and Books

BROOKLYN EATS

Stop by the Brooklyn Museum’s Plaza on Eastern Parkway every Thursday from now through the month of October and pick up some fresh produce for dinner from the Project EATS farm stand. The stand is open to the public from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Thursday and is presented as part of the upcoming exhibition, Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, and Beyond (opening Thursday, October 3).

THAT BROOKLYN BEAT

The Brooklyn Emerging Artists in Theater (BEAT) Festival will once again bring its signature performances to the Brooklyn Museum on Thursday, September 11 to launch its third annual festival, running through Saturday, September 20.

The event features festival artists performing in tucked away corners, halls and unexpected locations throughout Brooklyn’s largest museum. Opening night will kick off at 7 p.m. and performances will include Aja Monet; Bed-Stuy Veterans; LEIMAY; Two Sides Sounding and more.

There are several free performances (with a suggested donation to the museum), while ticketed events are priced up to $35, and a general festival pass is available for $60. PITCH-A-PALOOZA

Join the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library for Pitch-a-Palooza, a Bookend Event of this year’s annual Brooklyn Book Festival, on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. This month’s Pitch-a-Palooza will feature the Book Doctors, Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry.

The Book Doctors are often called the go-to resource for everything budding authors need to write, sell and market their books successfully. Eckstut and Sterry will give aspiring writers the chance of a lifetime – one minute to pitch their book ideas to a panel of publishing experts. The person with the best pitch receives an introduction to an agent. Books will be sold at this event.

The event will take place in the library’s Dweck Center.
