NYPD to pilot-test body cameras in parts of Brooklyn

Patrol officers in the 73rd Precinct and Police Service Area 2 in Brownsville and the 75th Precinct in East New York will be among six precincts citywide to wear body cameras as part of a pilot program implemented by the NYPD in response to legal and community concerns regarding the agency’s stop-and-frisk policy.

Two types of body cameras will be tested: one clips to the chest (Vievu LE3) and one clips to glasses (Taser AXON Flex).

“[This] demonstrates our commitment to transparency while also allowing us to review its effectiveness, with the [long-term] intention of expanding the program,” said Commissioner Bill Bratton.

Other participating precincts are the 23rd Precinct in Harlem, 40th Precinct in South Bronx, and 102nd and 103rd Precincts in Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Jamaica.
