Kings County Steelers raid Bayside Raiders, 20-14

In their second game of the season, the Kings County Steelers Youth Football Club, of the New York City Youth Football League, took on the Bayside Raiders in Bayside, Queens. The Raiders quickly jumped out to a lead, scoring on their first possession with a sweep to the right side that covered 30 yards.

The Steelers responded on the very next possession when quarterback Artie Acevedo, in for an injured Sal Miciotta, hit tight end Luciano DiPreta for a 40-yard touchdown. Steelers running back Carlo Miciotta added the two-point conversion.

The Steeler defense then became stingy, repeatedly denying the Raiders offense. On this day, the Steeler defense boasted many stars but none more impacting than linebacker Luka Skoda whose stellar performance was highlighted by three fumble recoveries. Defensive end Dipreta and linebackers Sean DellaTorre and Faheem Clark all forced fumbles.

Acevedo scampered 50 yards for a touchdown and the Steeler offense continued to rally with a slick 30-yard dash to the end zone by Carlo Miciotta, making it a 20-6 game.

The Raiders refused to go quietly into the night as their running back scored on a long 50-yard haul. The Raiders then added a two-point conversion but it just wasn’t enough as the Steelers held on for their first win of the season.

After dropping the season opener to last year’s champions, the Brooklyn Skyhawks, this Steeler win brings their record to 1-1 on the season in the NYCYFL.
