Just over a week after withdrawing as medical partner in the development deal to purchase Long Island College Hospital (LICH), NYU Langone Medical Center re-joined the partnership with Fortis Property Group.
The about-face is the result of Judge Johnny Lee Baynes tossing out the lawsuit filed by the New York State Nurses Association against Fortis, which he had previously upheld and expanded to include NYU as a potential plaintiff.
It was the prospect of being included in the lawsuit – which charged that NYU and Fortis failed to re-hire enough of LICH’s former nursing staff – that led NYU to back out and led the deal to appear on the verge of collapse.
