Police Beat: 62 and 68 Precinct blotters

68th Precinct

Between Wednesday, October 8 and Sunday, October 12, the 68th Precinct received reports of two grand larcenies and one burglary. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

TEN MONTHS TOO LONG

A woman living near Fourth and Ovington Avenues reported that, between Wednesday, January 1 of this year and Wednesday, October 8, she received constant phone calls from an unknown person and an unknown number stating that she owed the state taxes.

The unknown caller allegedly told the local resident to purchase Green Dot Money Paks and make payments over the phone.

Over the course of 10 months, the woman provided the perp with approximately $10,000.

SWIFT SNATCH

On Sunday, October 12 between 2:55 and 3 p.m. a woman told cops that, while she was using the restroom inside a business near 63rd Street and Eighth Avenue, she left her purse behind. When she returned five minutes later, cops said, the purse was missing.

RIDGE ROBBERY

A man living near 66th Street and Ridge Boulevard left his home on Tuesday, October 7 around 5:40 a.m. When he returned just before 5 p.m., he found that an unknown perp had allegedly entered through the bedroom window using the fire escape.

Once inside, cops said, the unknown perp pocketed $500, and one Galaxy 4 cell phone.

62nd Precinct

Between Tuesday, October 7 and Monday, October 13, the 62nd Precinct received reports of four burglaries, six grand larcenies, six felony assaults and one auto theft. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

FAREWELL VOYAGER

A 1999 blue Plymouth Voyager was stolen from its parking spot near 16th and Benson Avenues some time between 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 7 and the next morning, said police.

HOUSE HEISTS

Someone stole $14,500 worth of jewelry from a home on 73rd Street near 17th Avenue between Friday and Saturday, October 10-11, police said. The burglar(s) ransacked a bedroom dresser and also broke the front door lock, preventing the owners from getting into the apartment and requiring them to break the window in order to enter.

Someone stole credit and debit cards, a cell phone, ID cards, car keys and a car from a 50-year-old man living on West Eighth Street between Avenue P and Quentin Road on Saturday, October 11, said police. The burglar entered via a kitchen window and fled in the victim’s car, abandoning it after getting into an accident three blocks away. A witness described the suspect as a Hispanic man with a stocky build and olive skin.

Someone stole $2,000 in cash plus jewelry and ID cards from a home on Quentin Road near West Fourth Street at around 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, said police. The suspect entered through a rear door, damaging it. Cops found a box of surgical face masks left behind.

A burglar clipped a window lock on a rear window of a 78th Street home near 18th Avenue on Thursday, October 9 at around 9:30 a.m., said police. The suspect made off with $7,500 in cash plus jewelry and ID cards.

STREET ATTACK

Police are searching for four Hispanic men in their late 20s or early 30s who punched, kicked and cut a 30-year-old white male as he walked near 20th Avenue and 84th Street at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8. The victim sustained pain and swelling to his stomach and a cut on his left shoulder.

RIDE-BY THEFT

A 25-year-old Asian man told police that a man wearing a gray hoodie and riding a bike snatched his iPhone out of his hands near the intersection of 86th Street and 23rd Avenue at around 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7. The suspect fled on 85th Street towards 25th Avenue.

BAT ATTACK

A 29-year-old man told cops that he was hit in the head with a baseball bat by an unknown stranger with whom he had argued at the intersection of 63rd Street and 24th Avenue at around 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8.
