Everyone was a hero during the first annual Super Ridge 5K Run

Super heroes save the day!

On Sunday, November 16, Bay Ridge played host to its first annual Super Ridge 5K Run, in the name of good fun and charity. Attendees lined up at the run’s starting point, Narrows Botanical Garden, dressed as their favorite superheroes (or villains), including characters from “The Incredibles,” Spider-Man, Captain America and Batman, then ran over three miles along the scenic Shore Road route.

Once they reached the finish line, they enjoyed music, drinks and dancing. The event also included a photo booth for participants to pose in their costumes.

“The event was a huge success. We had gift cards, mini speakers and medals for the winners,” said Felix Chen, a member of the event’s planning committee.

In additions to the awards given out to the fastest runners, the best costumes were rewarded as well.

“It was awesome,” said participant Adam Grabowsky. “Runners from all around the world attended the event. The first place winner was from Germany. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a weekend morning.”

Registration on the day of the event was $20 with all proceeds going towards the Making Headway Foundation, an organization that dedicates itself to children with brain and spinal cord tumors.

“I had an amazing time at the run this past weekend,” added another participant, Emmett O’Brien. “The organizers did a great job at putting it all together and I’ll definitely be back next year.”
