FAMILY ‘n FRIENDS gather, celebrating their good fortunes with an abundance of delicious foods, flowing drinks, scrumptious desserts and catch-up chitchat. As we give thanks, while enjoying the stuffing, cranberry sauce, baked goodies and crunchy delights, our human world seems full … BUT caution has to be given to our hungry animal friends, who beg, borrow and steal Thanksgiving trimmings.
Some of the ill-gotten gains can be hazards to cats and dogs. Raw or undercooked turkey may contain salmonella bacteria. Herbs such as sage contain resins and essential oils. If eaten in large quantities, they can cause gastrointestinal upset and central nervous system depression to pets. Cats are especially sensitive to the effects of certain essential oils.
Ingested raw bread dough can cause the dough to rise in an animal’s warm stomach. As it expands, the pet may experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting and bloating, which could become a life-threatening emergency, requiring surgery.
Nosey pets are at risk, if they steal batter, especially if it includes raw eggs. It could contain salmonella bacteria that may lead to food poisoning. Be extra careful, NOT to indulge your pet in overeating. Too much of a good thing can be detrimental to your pet’s stomach, and can cause stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse—an inflammatory condition of the pancreas–pancreatitis.
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving, with all the positive trimmings. Be adopted by a loving rescued kitty. Add a huge LOVE bow around your heart. You’ll be glad you did!
The Jackson Five- “Got to be there. Got to be there, in the morning, When she says, ‘Hello’, to the world, Got to be there. Got to be there, bring her good times, And show her that she’s my girl Oh, what a feeling there’ll be The moment I know she loves me, ‘Cause when I look in her eyes. I realize, I need her sharing the world beside me.” – – Song by the Jackson Five
“The Jackson Five are wonderful playful gentle little souls, with great personalities, who want to share their world beside you. Mimi is a beautiful, young female cat who was found in someone’s back yard in Bay Ridge. Her unique brown tabby and white facial markings highlight the classic M on her forehead, and shine with her high-energy, outgoing personality.
The community suspects that the original guardian may have passed away, leaving her homeless. She was found hungry and battled from living on the streets, and even though her body was battled, her spirit was not.
Mimi is the sweetest female cat you will even meet, a super engaging, low-maintenance lap-kitty who just loves kids and adults. She greets you with little sweet trills and loves to jump on a person’s lap. C’mon, please meet and greet her. This super friendly, people-loving, and animal-loving girl is ready to play, cuddle and sleep with you every night of the week.
She is being temporarily fostered, in Brooklyn, NY 11209 and can be reached at 917-693-7844. Please consider adopting Mimi into a forever loving home. She is spayed….
