Local pol leads scores in a showing of NYPD support

Brooklyn residents, politicians and officials alike rallied outside the 66th Precinct (5822 16th Avenue) on Tuesday, December 23 to thank the NYPD for their hard work as well as to mourn the murders of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, shot at point-blank range while sitting in their police car on Saturday, December 20.

The half-rally, half-vigil was organized by Councilmember David Greenfield, whose staff handed out printouts of the NYPD badge with black ribbons to attendees.

“Police are our family,” said Greenfield. “I tell my kids, if you are ever lost; if you ever have a problem you can go to a relative or a police officer. I don’t know every one of the 35,000 police officers in New York, but I do know that when they put on the uniform every day they are risking their lives to protect us.”

Also in attendance were State Senator Simcha Felder, and Councilmembers Brad Lander and Carlos Menchaca.
