Councilmember Gentile to host free Narcan training seminar

Councilmember Vincent Gentile will hold a free training session on the use of Narcan, an easy-to-use medication that can instantly reverse the effects of an opiate overdose, at 7 p.m.  Thursday, January 28 at William McKinley Jr. High School.

Narcan, which is administered by nasal spray, takes two to five minutes to counteract heroin and other opiate-related overdoses.

“Drug overdoses have grown as a silent scourge in our neighborhood,” said Gentile Spokesperson Justin Brannan. “In the past year, nearly a dozen local youths have died from opiate overdoses.”

There will be approximately 200 Narcan nasal sprays available to those who attend.

The seminar will teach attendees how to use Narcan, as well as learning how to prevent, recognize and respond to an overdose.

To reserve a seat, call the councilmember’s office at 718-748-5200. McKinley is located at 7301 Fort Hamilton Parkway.
