Fontbonne celebrates Senior Night with a Red Storm win

On Friday, February 13, Fontbonne played its last home game of the regular season hosting St. John’s Prep on Senior Night. On this year’s freshmen and sophomore-dominated Varsity there are just two outgoing seniors, Adrianna Boumoussa and Jill Nixon.

At Fontbonne’s traditional half time ceremony, sophomore teammates Meaghan Glynn and Emily Lind along with Head Coach Stephen Oliver and Athletic Director Donna Schirippa honored the seniors with flowers, uniform plaques and fond memories of seasons past.

After beating rival Bishop Kearney 48-45 earlier in the week, the Bonnies again seized home court advantage to bounce back from an earlier road loss to the Red Storm.

In what started out as an evenly matched contest, St. John’s season high scorer Simone Khedaru (20 points) kept the Red Storm in the game just two points behind Fontbonne (26-24) at the half until the Bonnies’ scoring surge in the third quarter.

In the second half, Fontbonne pulled ahead of St. John’s (41-31) as the Bonnies went on a 15-7 run, setting up the winning margin in the third quarter for the eventual 53-40 win. Contributing to an always welcome win on Senior Night, Meaghan Glynn and Breanne McDonald scored 15 points apiece while Katie Marquardt scored 12 points.

To end the regular season, Fontbonne completed its schedule with a subsequent road loss to Monsignor McClancy, which gave the Bonnies a 6-6 fourth place record going into the playoffs.

Coincidentally third seeded Fontbonne will start the first round of the playoffs next week against the same Red Storm team that finished with a record of 4-8 for the fourth place playoff seed.

This year, St. Edmund Prep won the regular season with a first place record of 11-1, while Bishop Kearney and Monsignor McClancy both tied for second place with a record of 9-3.
