Children hunt Easter eggs on snowy lawn at annual Gravesend event

A little snow is no match for the Easter Bunny.

Children, parents and parishioners alike came out to Our Lady of Grace in Gravesend on Saturday, March 21 for the parish’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

“It was great,” said Mary Ann De Luca, parishioner and organizer of the event’s fourth year. “We had about 40 kids and, even though we typically have over 100, we carried on despite the snow – we even had people come in from Mill Basin.”

The eggs, she said, were decorated by children and donated by the Imperial Taekwondo Academy, located at 275 Avenue U.

Despite a little snowy weather, festivities went off without a hitch from 1 to 3 p.m. as children scoured the parking lot behind the church and Our Lady of Grace school-yard for hidden eggs. Then, when they were done, tuckered-out tots had their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny himself.

At just $5 a snapshot, children – and parents – were smiling ear to ear.

“We even grilled up some frankfurters and hot dogs,” De Luca said, adding that, despite the wet ground, the sun was out and the day was beautiful. “We couldn’t have done it without Boy Scout Troop 376 and Joann Cassata. They put a lot of work into it.”
