Community comes out to join Pietro’s Fight

The gloves were out on Thursday, March 12 as over 550 people made their way to El Caribe Country Club to join Pietro Scarso in his fight against DMD – Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, an incurable disease that affects one out of every 3,600 boys.

The organization’s third annual dinner dance saw the likes of celebrities, local elected officials, and active community members, all there to support the fight against and raise awareness about DMD.

“We maxed out the room, we had over 200 raffles and silent auctions, and it was all neighborhood, community friends, families and business owners,” said Dayna Scarso, founder of Pietro’s Fight – a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to find a cure for DMD, a disease her son Pietro was diagnosed with at age three. “It was an excellent turnout, an excellent vibe, and everyone had an awesome time.”

The night featured a five-hour open bar, dinner, raffles, silent auctions and performances by Judy Torres, Kim Sozzi and the Star Struck Dance Company.

“Everyone donated their time,” added Scarso.  “Without our donors and sponsors and attendees, we would not be able to have such a successful event. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Bay Ridge and the community.”

The funds raised at the event will go toward increasing worldwide awareness about DMD and helping fund research to find a cure. For more information or to learn about Pietro’s story, visit pietrosfight.org.
