Bonnies take the diamond for 2015 softball season

As much as it is the softball team’s goal to win, 12 year Fontbonne Head Coach Frank Marinello is a constant reminder that, “You must respect the game, respect your opponents and each other.” Win or lose, this is the 2013 Manager of the Year’s constant mantra. So far to start this season, Marinello’s Bonnies have resumed play with a 1-1 record along with one suspended game to be completed later this month.

Archbishop Molloy 4 Fontbonne 0

The Stanners of Molloy stole the Bonnies’ opening day optimism with a strong pitching performance that held Fontbonne scoreless through seven innings. Although Bianca Marletta was two for three with a single and triple, and struck out 10 Stanners, the rest of the Bonnies could not produce any runs on opening day.

Fontbonne 6 Mary Louis 3 – suspended game to be continued

The Bonnies were looking to come back after their opening day loss to Archbishop Molloy and traveled to Cunningham Park to face the Mary Louis Academy.  The Hilltoppers took an early 2-0 lead that the Bonnies quickly overcame on Delaina Allegretti’s RBI triple and Bianca Marletta’s RBI double for a 3-2 lead.

By the sixth inning, the Bonnies increased their lead to 6-3 on the bat of Marletta as she walloped a two \-run double off the fence, nearly missing a home run. As well as contributing on offense, Marletta also had eight strikeouts while giving up just one earned run as Allegretti finished two for four with a triple and single and one RBI.

Due to scheduling constraints for the field, the game will be completed the next time the Bonnies play the Hilltoppers on April 27.

Fontbonne 14 Christ the King 0

The Bonnies converged on the Royals for their first official win of the season as the team batted around the order to score 14 unanswered runs. For Fontbonne, pitcher Gabby Gannoscoli held the Royals scoreless only giving up two hits, just a single and a double.
