Bonnies lose two in non-league competition

This weekend, the Bonnies finished with a season record of 6-5 as they suffered two losses in non-league games outside of the borough. First, the Bonnies traveled to Staten Island to play in the borough’s Breast Cancer Awareness Softball Tournament and fundraiser; then they went to New Jersey to test themselves against a competitive Garden State team.

Going to the sixth inning, St. Joseph’s led 5-1 to open the top of the frame. Throughout five innings, the Bonnies’ defense would keep the team in this game as third baseman Arianna Dillon and Natalie LoCognata made stabbing catches in the infield to prevent any further scoring by St. Joseph.

Although the Bonnies’ bats had remained relatively quiet, the offense exploded in the top of the fifth inning for four runs to tie the game at 5-5. Just when the contest seemed that it would go into extra innings with one out remaining, the last St. Joseph batter smacked a long drive to left field that would stand up for the game’s winning run.

Unlike the St. Joseph game, there would be no last inning drama. Fontbonne could only put one run across the plate as senior Gabby Gannoscoli pitched well while the rest of the Bonnies played an error-filled game to allow eight winning runs.
