BREAKING: Officer shoots man dead after attacker slashes him in the throat

In Brighton Beach, police officer, 24-year-old Fillippo Gugliara, killed a man who attacked a woman and then slashed the cop in the throat.

On Thursday, June 18 at approximately 1:15 p.m., cops say that at the Ocean Parkway train station on the Q line, the uniformed police officer was assigned to a transit foot post when he heard commotion coming from the street level. When Gugliara went down to the street, he saw that a woman, approximately 78-years-old, was being assaulted by a 58-year-old white male. The officer attempted to apprehend the alleged perp who responded by slashing the officer in the neck and shoulder with an eleven inch hunting knife.

Gugliara then fired two rounds and struck the suspect in the tourso, killing him at the scene.

The officer was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

“The preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect had been involved in an altercation in a nearby store and assaulted the female after she attempted to intervene,” said Police Commissioner Bill Bratton during a press conference. “The details of this prior encounter are still being investigated. It appears at this time that there was no known connection between the deceased suspect and the 78 year old female victim. I want to thank the staff here at the NYU Lutheran Medical Center for their outstanding care. “

“I just want to say it was a tremendous honor to meet Officer Fillippo Gugliara. He was brave – he pursued this perp, followed his training, did the right thing – went toward the danger,” added Mayor Bill de Blasio. “It was so good to see him – thank God – in great shape upstairs.  This is an example to this city of the kind of men and women who join the NYPD, who are ready to serve, who are ready to walk into harm’s way to make sure their fellow New Yorkers are safe.”
