Brooklyn-bound Marine Parkway Bridge Closed Overnight August 17-21

From the MTA:

Brooklyn-bound Marine Parkway Bridge Closed Overnight Aug. 17-21

The Brooklyn-bound (north) side of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic during overnight hours from Monday night through Friday morning, Aug. 17-21 for ongoing demolition of the old Rockaway Point Boulevard overpass.

All north-bound traffic will be detoured to the Cross Island Veterans Memorial Bridge between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly.

(Note: The exception is Q35 bus, which will maintain normal route under facility escort).

Traffic heading into the Rockaways from Brooklyn (south) will be detoured onto the Breezy Point exit and back onto the 169th Street entrance ramp.

The $13.9 million design/build project to reconstruct the nearly 50-year-old overpass is using an accelerated timeline that will see work completed by Thanksgiving in order to minimize impacts to motorists. There is no loss of capacity since the temporary bridge structure is handling current traffic volume.

Signs will be in place advising motorists of the north-bound closure and detour coming off the bridge. Customers are encouraged to sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts to get the latest information. Visit: www.mta.info for details.
