Yoga in the Park series hits Bay Ridge

The Yoga in the Park series is in full swing this summer.

The series of free yoga sessions recently had its third session of the summer on July 18 at Shore Road Park near 79th Street.

Now in its second year of operation, the series is hosted by Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis and State Senator Marty Golden in partnership with Yoga in Bay Ridge and Bikram Yoga.

“Yoga is a great form of exercise for both body and mind, and is for anyone of any age or physical ability. It helps build focus, strength, balance and coordination,” said Malliotakis. “While the yoga taught at our sessions is basic, more advanced yogis can moderate their stretches to make their practice more advanced. The nice thing about yoga is that each person can moderate each pose based on their ability and get a great benefit from the exercise.”

Although the July 18 event saw low attendance due to rain, average attendance is between 80 and 100 participants. Children are welcome at the sessions as long as they can stay near their parent and/or guardian.

The series will continue on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, August 11, 7 p.m.;
  • Saturday, August 29, 9 a.m.;
  • Monday, September 14, 6:30 p.m.

Due to limited space, attendees are highly encouraged to reserve a spot in future sessions by contacting Golden’s office at 718-238-6044, Malliotakis’s office at 718-987-0197 or by emailing nyassembly60@gmail.com, indicating which classes they plan to attend.
