Peace Day celebrated throughout the city

Party for peace!

All across the city, people were putting their party hats on for September’s International Day of Peace.

With activities for kids and adults of all ages, participation in these events, hosted by the Good News Corporation—a non-profit organization — is meant to strengthen peace education around the world.

“Our events raise the awareness that there are many helping to make life more peaceful for children now,” said Founder of Peace Day Paul Sladkus. “This is our mission — to celebrate those helping and living in peace.”

The peace-promoting activities spanned the East River, including events in Manhattan’s Duffy Square on September 15, in Central Park on September 20 and at the Brooklyn War Memorial in Cadman Plaza Park on September 21 featuring the creation of a human peace sign, sing-alongs, flag presentations, the planting of a peace pole and dancing. At the Brooklyn event, there was a moment of silence at noon.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams issued a proclamation for the day of the Brooklyn event, naming September 21, 2015 Peace Day Party in Brooklyn, U.S.A.

“All of Brooklyn joins today with the Good News Corporation to recognize and celebrate International Day of Peace ‘Peace Party Day,’ which is dedicated to raising the awareness that everyone should work together to establish a peaceful world and achieve world peace for our future generations,” the proclamation read. “I commend everyone for all of their contributions towards peace and for educating our children to help reduce violence, bullying, poor self-esteem, hunger, bad nutrition, sex trafficking and homelessness; and I thank everyone for all that they have done to touch and improve the lives of many, helping to move our communities forward as One Brooklyn.”
