Brooklyn-bound Marine Parkway Bridge closed nightly this Sunday to Wednesday

From the MTA: The Brooklyn-bound (north) side of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sun., Oct. 11 through Wed., Oct. 14 to allow for setting of the steel on the new Rockaway Point Boulevard overpass.

The work is dependent on good weather and may be canceled in the event of rain.

All north-bound traffic will be detoured each night to the Cross Bay Veteran Memorial Bridge between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with the exception of the Q35 bus, which will continue to operate along its normal route.

Traffic heading into the Rockaways from Brooklyn (south) will be detoured onto the Breezy Point exit and back onto the 169th Street entrance ramp.

The $13.9 million design/build project to reconstruct the nearly 50-year-old overpass is using an accelerated timeline that will see work completed by Thanksgiving in order to minimize impacts to motorists. There is no loss of capacity since the temporary bridge structure is handling current traffic volume.

Signs will be in place advising motorists of the north-bound closure and detour coming off the bridge. Customers are encouraged to sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts to get the latest information. Visit: www.mta.info for details.
