According to the MTA, one tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 through 7 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 as part of the four-year, $282.5 million Sandy repair project.
One lane will operate in each direction in the remaining tube. Motorists may experience delays. This work is weather dependent and may be canceled if it rains.
The Sandy repair project includes replacing multiple systems that were damaged in the 2012 Superstorm Sandy event including the entire traffic control and communications, lighting, drainage pump and fire line systems.
Contractors are also repairing damaged concrete, installing new LED lights and emergency way-finding safety lights; replacing tunnel wall tiles, ceiling finishes, catwalks and duct banks; rehabilitating curbs and gutters and repaving tunnel roadways.
