Paying tribute to a beloved mother.

On Saturday, November 21, On-Stage at Kingsborough will conclude its strong line of November performances with actress and singer Lorna Luft paying tribute to her mother Judy Garland in her show entitled “Songs My Mother Taught Me.”

Described as a tribute to a legend and a joyous celebration, the musical performance will feature memories of Garland  as an award winning singer/actress and as a mother.

In 2007, Luft released an album based on the show called “Songs My Mother Taught Me,” produced by Barry Manilow and Luft’s husband, Colin Freeman. Before she completed the CD, Luft debuted the stage show and performed a successful European tour in 2005. She recently wrapped up a United Kingdom tour called, “Judy- The Songbook of Judy Garland.”

“There’s really a mother-daughter theme with a couple of these shows,” said Executive Director of On-Stage at Kingsborough, Anna Becker of Luft and the November performances. “This particular show tells moving but funny stories of [Luft] growing up. It’s a wonderful show.”

The show has received rave reviews, winning the Ovation Award. It includes a familiar songbook that attendees of all ages can enjoy. The musical numbers are coupled with both humorous and heartfelt stories about Garland told by Luft.

“Songs My Mother Taught Me” will be performed on Saturday, November 21 at 8 p.m. at Kingsborough Community College, 2001 Oriental Boulevard. Tickets start at $30. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.onstageatkingsborough.org.
