Fort Hamilton High School brings holiday cheer to Shore Hill

The halls of Shore Hill Housing Center (9000 Shore Road) were decked with all sorts of festive cheer as the Fort Hamilton High School Symphonic Band performed a lively holiday concert for residents on Monday, December 7.

A 10-year tradition for the school, the performance is all in the spirit of giving back, says Fort Hamilton High School Symphonic Band Director Thomas Oberle.

“The community supports Fort Hamilton High School and our students and [faculty] do whatever we can to give back,” said Oberle. “We love to give back and then also it really helps prepare the students for performances as well.”

The practice comes in handy for the band’s annual holiday concert, set to take place at the high school (8301 Shore Road) on Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17 this year—a way for the group to help raise money for a competition trip to Disney World.

“It’s a lot of fun,” added Oberle. “We enjoy it and it gives the students practice for moving the equipment [for when] they take it on the road. We talk about getting the students college and career ready, and this really prepares them for what it’s like to be a professional musician.”
