Coney Island Parachute Jump to light blue for autism awareness

For the third year in a row, the Coney Island Parachute Jump will light blue in honor of Autism Awareness Month.

The lighting will be hosted by Councilmember Mark Treyger in conjunction with the Coney Island Autism Angels on Saturday, April 2 as part of Light it Up Blue — a nationally observed campaign started by Autism Speaks in 2010.

“I’m proud to work with the Coney Island Autism Angels as well as Luna Park, Community Board 13 and the local police precinct to help raise awareness that is so important to so many families,” said Treyger.  “There is too much focus today on what people cannot do while, in reality, we should be emphasizing what people can do. I want people to know that there is a support system out there, and that there are people who truly care about this.”

The event will take place at West 19th Street on the Riegelmann Boardwalk, starting at 7:30 p.m.
