Reaching-Out Community Service notched another success in its efforts to feed the hungry as it held its eighth annual Fight Against Hunger Benefit for The Homeless Friend Program.

This year’s event, held at The Pearl Room, 8518 Third Avenue, on Thursday, May 19, was geared at raising both awareness and money for the local needy, with funds raised at the event targeted at the organization’s Homeless Feeding Bus, which brings food to homeless people.

The Bay Ridge Real Estate Board, also known as the Brooklyn Real Estate Board, was honored with the Real Estate Professional Educators Award while Investors Bank received the Altruistic Community Banking Award.

During the benefit, Frank Wasserman was given the Volunteer of the Year award. Over the years,  Wasserman has volunteered in schools, hospitals and youth organizations during the holidays and brought smiles to children’s faces by acting as a magician and balloon artist as well as dressing up as a clown and Santa Claus.

“Congratulations to Reaching-Out Community Service team for putting together this great event in helping feed the homeless,” State Senator Marty Golden said in a statement. “Special recognition to Investors Bank, the Bay Ridge Real Estate Board and Frank Wasserman for the great work they do for our community.”
