Joe Torre to return to Brooklyn as Cyclones honor Hall of Famer

Not so average Joe returns home.

Hall of Famer and former all-star player Joe Torre will be honored by the Brooklyn Cyclones.

On Tuesday, August 9, the Brooklyn native and former manager for the Mets and Yankees, where he won four World Series titles with the latter, will make an appearance at MCU Park for “Joe Torre Safe At Home Night.”

Before the Cyclones take on the Vermont Lake Monsters at 7:10 p.m., Torre will be in attendance for the Third Annual Celebrity/Civil Servants Softball Challenge. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. where members of the FDNY and NYPD will play against celebrities and former athletes. Currently scheduled to appear are former Mets players Edgardo Alfonzo and Nelson Figueroa, former New York Knicks stars John Starks and John Wallace, and others to be announced.

Torre will serve as an “Honorary Captain” for the game.

In addition, the first 2,000 fans will receive Joe Torre Brooklyn Cadets bobbleheads. In honor of Torre playing for the Cadets in his younger days, his bobblehead will be sporting a Cadets uniform. During the game, there will be raffles and a silent auction to help raise money for Joe’s “Safe At Home” Foundation, which seeks to end the cycle of domestic violence.
