The Fort Hamilton Tigers saved their season with a big road win in Queens, as they beat Campus Magnet 32-16.

The Tigers improved to 2-3, and got the win with a couple of superb performances by their two emerging stars, Troy Booker and Seba Nekhet.

Fort Hamilton got an early lift on defense when it stopped Campus Magnet on a fourth down on its opening drive. The Tigers’ offense responded, as Nekhet had a 31-yard run, followed by Booker going the distance on a 37-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers an early 8-0 lead.

Booker followed that up with an interception return for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 16-0 edge. Later in the first half, Nicholas Wynter had a big 47-yard run, followed by a 38-yard run for Nekhet to give the Tigers a 24-0 lead at halftime.

After the Tigers’ defense kept Campus Magnet off the board on a long drive in the third quarter, Booker scored on the first play of Fort Hamilton’s drive, a 37-yard touchdown run to open up a 32-0 edge.

Campus Magnet got two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the final score a more respectable 32-16.
Booker and Nekhet have been the constant in an uneven start for this young Tigers team, and are primed to carry it on a late run to the playoffs.

In this one, Booker ran for 88 yards on five carries and two touchdowns, and the interception return for a touchdown, and recorded 13 tackles on defense. Nekhet threw for 50 yards on 3-6 passing, and had seven carries for 91 yards, with a touchdown.

Ricardo Linton had a nice game running the ball, with eight carries for 46 yards.

The Tigers compiled 272 of their 322 total yards on the ground.

One key to this victory was that the Tigers went four for four on two-point conversions. A big reason the Tigers lost a close one the prior week to Wagner, 36-30, was that they gave up the equivalent of a touchdown by not converting them.

The Tigers stay a bit closer to home this weekend, with a neighborhood rivalry game at New Utrecht on Saturday, October 15.
