Four 62nd Precinct officers presented with Cop of the Month honors

Taking the time to show appreciation for their hard work in keeping the Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend communities safe, Captain Anthony Sanseverino, the 62nd Precinct’s commanding officer, along with the 62nd Precinct Community Council, presented four outstanding officers with Cop of the Month honors on Tuesday, October 18.

Police Officers Jean Innocent and Stefan Seecharan received the award for their work on the midnight tour, a job they are out doing until 8 a.m. or later, Sanseverino said.

On October 2, [our officers] were out on the midnight tour, looking for bad guys, looking for our recidivists – the guys we know are going to commit crimes,” Sanseverino explained. “They were out near New Utrecht Avenue and [got word] that there was going to be a dispute, possibly involving a firearm. They canvassed the area and at around 3:30 in the morning they located a vehicle fitting the description they had gotten. They were able to recover a 38-caliber firearm. It was loaded. Crack and marijuana were also recovered and we took a guy off the street who has 32 prior arrests. This was a bad guy out here for no good. These are the things we need to do.”

Anti-crime team officers, Sergeant Christopher Dixon and Police Officer Juby Thomas, were thrust into action just two days later, similarly, for a firearm-related arrest.

“It was approximately 7 p.m. near Highlawn Avenue and West Ninth Street and [our officers] observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign,” said Sanseverino. “The officers were able to perform a car stop safely and they recovered a 9 millimeter, semi-automatic handgun. The [person] had nine prior arrests. Both of these cases are still ongoing and we are working with the Brooklyn district attorney’s office, but, I really just want to thank these four officers.”
