Ten Santas and dozens of elves deliver toys for the Secret Sandy Claus Project

The more the merrier.

On Christmas Eve, ten Santas and dozens of elves in costumes made home deliveries of toys to over 100 low income children in Coney Island.

The event, organized by the Secret Sandy Claus Project/We Care New York, began at 10 a.m. Participants met at the Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese Monument at MCU Park, 1904 Surf Avenue, for a big photo op before setting off.

Children volunteers from the Coney Island Generation Gap organization assisted with taking pictures of the event. They accompanied the Santas with the elves and members of the Police Service Area 1 NYPD Precinct.

The Santas each had their own routes to deliver the toys provided by the NYC Marines Toys for Tots organization. Each route had about five stops.

“This is so that we can fulfill our obligation that we set for ourselves to get as many children in need of toys this Christmas,” Secret Sandy Claus Project Founder Michael Sciaraffo said.

Sciaraffo founded the Sandy Claus Project in 2012, when Hurricane Sandy destroyed homes and displaced families. It started off as a one person project, where he would collect hundreds of toys for the affected children and deliver them while donning a Santa suit. Afterwards, it garnered worldwide and national news media coverage and expanded with the help of volunteers.
